Paper planes are so simple, yet it inspire admirers for different reasons. The act of folding paper planes and testing its aerodynamics is so satisfying and fun! Jamming to the paper planes song by MIA is pretty hip too. May I suggest, the stylish flying paper plane wall decals by Mel Lim from Blik?
There are many origami money folding artists, but what makes this money origami artist stand out is that he keeps the face when transforming the bill into origami. This origami artist goes by the pseudonym: Nakaism, who is also an architect and based in Japan. Currency is highly symbolic as it personifies national and economic power as well as human desire. Rather than alluding to such controversial topics, Nakaism attempts to share a different perspective by focusing on the art and culture of a nation by using its patterns, colors, and historical faces on the bill. The bill, when folded, eliminates its value and are all equal when transformed into a beautiful piece of origami. If you like his website, you’d also like his book too.

Currently you cannot send your eager child to origami school, fold for hours and produce a world renowned origami master. There are origami clubs, but not a curriculum dedicated to teaching origami. However there are design schools who might offer assignments that encourage origami inspired thinking!

Daniel Schipper who is a graduate from the Design Academy in Eindhoven (south of the Netherlands) discovered origami when he was assigned a class project to create a homeless shelter. When one is homeless, easy transport becomes a key design element. If you are lucky, you might have a sleeping bag; otherwise maybe you might consider Mr. Schipper’s shelter made from misprinted milk packaging.

Since then, he’s discovered the amazing powers of origami. He noticed that you don’t need extra screws, bells, or whistles to create a functional and beautiful product. He’s created more origami inspired items, including an awesome greenhouse and child’s chair for play! Asked how he learned origami? He replied, “Just foldin’ for days in a row until I find the perfect shape or construction method.”

London-based contemporary artist Miwa Takabayashi designed this origami-inspired free standing cardboard structure called Packaged to be displayed inside a shopping center or consumer space. This 10 feet high structure serves as a place of refuge for our over-simulated and consumer-driven world. Or it can also be your child’s stylish new digs to play house.
