This origami inspired house in Tokyo designed by architect Yasuhiro Yamashita of Atelier Takuto shows off excellent lines and shape without sacrificing form and function. Along with an integrated car port, which balances handsomely on a single point at its base; this innovative design is a fantastic solution plaguing crowded urban cities.

I am a nine year old origami enthusiast from the Philippines. My mom laughed everytime I tell her I would make a house patterned from origami structures when I become an engineer someday. Your house is great! I will show it to my mom and maybe she will no longer laugh at my dream because it’s possible to have an origami house.
WONDERFULLLLLL
oh wow i want the same house
The design is certainly impressive, and the house looks nicer than most Japanese suburban houses. However, how does it solve the crowding problem? Is it providing more space than an equivalent conventional design?
Beautiful house, really, wow!
and Malvin, I bet you will build your origami house someday. Don’t give up!
This is amazing!! I wonder if was really successful in solving the “crowded area” issue? Oh…and I think another window would really help in cross-ventilation….anyway..thats just me thinking!
Nice post!!
A truly revolutionary design. If there were only a medium that could be used besides reinforced concrete. This is the type of thinking that will move the future. The engineering benefits of the origami art form and standing structures is tickling. The possibilities are so immense and there are years of ideas to revolutionize on. The carport is very clever. With the sun on the southern side and the amount of rain Japan has . . . wow . . . very good thinking. No need for garage doors and very easy to access. Not to mention attractive. This is what makes this piece a real space saver. Not all Japanese have cars. This speaks more to an American audience. Imagine if every large purpose structure could be made from a natural occurring green material and origami could be used to facilitate our needs. I live in a paper cardboard box, but with status. Woooo. Life would become a laughing matter for all of us.
